CHILD/YOUNG PERSONS PROTECTION POLICY

BMYP is committed to maintaining the safest possible environment for children and young persons. The welfare of its club members is of prime importance.

We do this by:

  • Ensuring there are sufficient numbers of licensed chaperones available during rehearsal periods and the shows
  • There is a chaperone coordinator available during the productions
  • Chaperones are parent/guardians who currently or previously have had their children/young person in BMYP
  • All licensed chaperones are registered with their appropriate local authority and records are kept of licence dates
  • In addition to those licenced to carry out a chaperone role all persons who work closely with children/young persons will as a minimum hold a DBS disclosure status.
  • There are new member meetings at which the parents/guardians of incoming members can meet members of the BMYP committee and receive information on such aspects as contact details. Also, to be informed of the mechanisms for providing feedback, concerns or suggestions on any aspect of the club.
  • Responding promptly to concerns whilst being mindful of sensitivities and confidentially involving the members of the club
  • Ensuring the chaperone coordinators are aware of any declared medical conditions. These will be treated confidentially and with sensitivity
  • Having designated committee members as nominated persons for child protection to oversee arrangements and act as main contact points for club members, parent/guardians and any outside agencies. The nominated child protection committee members currently are: Nicky Buckley and Nikki Kenna
  • Having trained first aid persons available during the productions. The trained first aider is currently Nicky Buckley

In order to achieve the above the direct input and support by parents and guardians is vital. We value your support.
