Set in the roaring 1920s, Chicago is a dazzling musical satire on fame, justice, and the media machine. It follows the stories of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two women accused of murder and awaiting trial in the Cook County Jail.
Roxie, a bored housewife, kills her lover in a moment of passion and tries to pin the crime on her unsuspecting husband, Amos. Meanwhile, Velma, a vaudeville star, is in jail for killing her husband and sister after finding them together.
Both women are desperate for fame and freedom. With the help of slick lawyer Billy Flynn, they manipulate the press and public opinion to gain celebrity status, hoping to avoid conviction.
As the women compete for headlines, attention, and ultimately acquittal, they learn that in the world of showbiz and crime, perception is everything—and justice is just another show.
