Frequently Ask Questions

What do I need to prepare?

Those auditioning will need to have a song ready to sing to our audition panel (around 3-4 people). The song should ideally be around 2 mins long (no longer than 3 mins). Please bring full sheet music (including accompaniment) for our pianist

What else will I need to do?

You will be taught a short dance/movement routine by our choreographer, and a couple of our current members will be there to help and guide you. This will be taught and performed in a group, you do not need to dance solo
When we send audition details, we will provide a shortlist of monologues.

You will need to choose one to perform for our audition panel. You can take the script in to the audition if you would like to

What are BMYP looking for?

We are not expecting or requiring every member to be a full “triple threat” actor, dancer AND singer. Our panel will be looking to see your potential skills and ability in one or more areas. It doesn’t matter if your audition isn’t “perfect” – please don’t worry!

How long will the audition last for?

The session is likely to take 2.5-3 hours in total. Parents are welcome to wait in a side room at the audition venue (they will not be allowed into the audition room itself).

BMYP team members will be present to show parents where they can wait, and there will be tea/coffee available. Alternatively, those auditioning can be collected after the audition has finished

What happens if I am successful?

Our membership secretary will be in touch to confirm the outcome of the audition as soon as possible – this is usually within a few days. Those who are offered a place in the club will be provided with full membership information.

Membership fees are currently £300.00 per year, which includes the option to participate in 2 shows. Costumes are provided by the club, but cast members are asked to provide required footwear and underwear.

All members are expected to sell at least 25 tickets for each production
Family members are asked to take part in a rota of helpers at Friday and Sunday rehearsals, and during show week Regular attendance at rehearsals is key. Members are expected to attend ALL rehearsals they are called for, unless they are unwell or they have a clashing school commitment
