My ‘official’ title is Director of Acting, but a more accurate description would be acting and dialogue coach. I work with the principals mainly on dialogue, timing, accents, characterisation and acting – going over lines and making sure that they are confident in what they are doing and saying. More recently I also seem to have assumed the role of backing track operator!
I first got involved with BMYP for their 2009 production of ‘Hot Mikado’. Vicki had directed me in a production of the show 10 years earlier and she asked me to come in to work with the principals as I knew the show; somehow, I have never managed to get away!
Away from BMYP, I have been performing since I made my musical stage debut in a school production of ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ – in 1975! Originally, I worked with groups in Watford, North Hertfordshire and London before moving to Bristol when I got married. I then joined BLOC in 1995 when they did ‘Guys and Dolls’ – directed by one Vicki Klein (with Lis Durbin). I have even appeared in three BMYP productions!
